Cooking Tips

Add jarred baby food or pureed carrots or sweet potato to ketchup to increase nutritional value.  Stir frozen peas into mac & cheese or soups to cool it off and add veggies.

Chop onions, peppers, and celery then freeze in bags.  When it's time to cook add straight to pan (while browning ground turkey or beef) or thaw slightly and add to casseroles.  (Save chopping time at the "horrible 5 o'clock everyone's hungry where's dinner time").

Use applesauce in place of oil in baking.  1/4 cup oil= 1/4 cup applesauce.  Add fiber and nutrition while reducing fat.

Better for them Mac & Cheese

Add a jar of baby food carrot or sweet potato or squash to box mix macaroni and cheese. (start with 1/2 a jar if your kids are extremely picky eaters.) Aunt Annie's has an all natural box mix, it hides better in the orange than the white.

Better for them Spaghetti or Lasagna

Add a jar of baby food or pureed veggies to jarred spaghetti sauce.  Read the label-watch out for hydrogenated fats.

Baby Smoothy

Pour yogurt (such as YoBaby) into a cup.  Add about a Tblsp. of milk or formula (depending on babies age).  With lid tightly closed, cover sippy hole and shake vigorously.  Serve with fruit or cereal bar (again age appropriate)

Quick Caregiver's Breakfast

Split english muffin, carefully scoop out some of the middle being careful not to break through the bottom, create a well in bottom half of muffin.  Break egg into well created in muffin bottom.  (Microwaves vary so watch)  Micro cook 30-45 seconds.  Add a slice of cheese and top half of muffin.  Continue to cook to desired doneness (approx. 10-15 seconds more). Let sit for 30 sec. to 1 minute.  Be Careful It's Hot!
